Burger: Turkey Burger
Score: 20.5
Burger (10 pts): 7.1
Comments: It was a turkey burger. Decent flavor for turkey, and it wasn't as greasy as most burgers usually are. Good size and consistency with superb grill-work. Nicely charred on the outside without burning the burger.
"It’s turkey… it’s pretty good turkey, but a turkey never the less." - Day
"The grill-work was superb with the perfect amount of charred texture; flavorful and scrumptious." - Silverman
Bun (3 pts): 2.8
Comments: The bun was excellent. A toasted wheat bun with oats on top nearly earned a perfect score. Best bun to date by far. One of the few buns not to fall apart when combated with burger juice and grease, but then again this burger wasn't very greasy. Still an amazing bun.
"Toasted just enough with sexy grill marks, whole wheat with oats on top got me real excited." - Blank
Cheese (3 pts): 1.7
Comments: The cheese selection was very good with options like Gouda and Gruyere not seen at most burger places. Everyone seemed to agree that the cheese was good, but it failed to wow or make a greater impact on the burger.
"Not a Bogey, neither a birdie. Just Par.." - Eide
Toppings (4 pts): 2.2
Comments: The toppings here were standard with lettuce, raw onion, tomato, and pickles. For some reason the burgers with Gouda didn't come with pickles. The produce was of a high quality overall, and the whole leaf lettuce is a nice touch but should be expected. (shredded lettuce is horrible) Nothing stood out above what is expected of toppings, although there were no complaints other than the lack of mustard on the table.
"Came with standard lettuce, onion, and tomato. Was crisp and did the job, but nothing special." - Silverman
Synergy (10 pts): 6.7
Comments: Open City is in Woodley Park, and it had that hipster vibe that it couldn't decide whether it wants to be a coffee shop, a restaurant, or a bar. Not really excelling in any one aspect. The food was good though, and the soup would be recommended. The fries were McDonaldseaque and should be avoided. We fall seasonal beer was a decent beer but don't except any depth on the beer menu. Being a block from the metro was very convenient.
"Kind of wish I didn’t feel like I was in a coffee shop. I hate coffee shops." - Eide
"Overly friendly server and hipster vibe not typical on a burger place. The beer was decent though not a great selection.." -Shubert
Total (30 pts): 20.5
Comments: Expectations varied as this was our first non-beef burger, but the overall burger was pretty good. The grill-work and charring on the burger was great, so hats off to the chef. A great choice for those who avoid red meat. The bun was amazing and possibly worth the trip alone. The alternative atmosphere here is definitely not your typical burger joint vibe, but may appeal to those who might be turned off by a dive bar.
"Overall, much better than I expected for a turkey burger. Beer was okay but cheese and toppings with the indecisive atmosphere killed it…" - Hamburg
"In a turkey vs. cow death match in the octagon, I would still put my money on the cow." - Day
"Despite the hipster atmosphere and not being a burger joint, this burger is delicious. Probably the best turkey burger I have ever had. Come here for the burger, not the atmosphere… unless you’re a hipster." - Blank
